The operating voltage of the LED we use for general purposes can be considered between 1.7-2.7. Therefore, when connected directly to a 3V supply (battery 2), their life may be reduced. In such cases the current that can pass through the LED can be controlled by connecting it across a resistor like 47 ohms. However, according to the above circuit diagrams, there is no difference in performance even if the resistor is connected in both modes.
